Enjoy a whole range of activities in the hotel itself or within walking distance. A major feature of a stay at the Tides Reach is the opportunity to enjoy a range of activities within the hotel itself or which are available within walking distance - without the use of a car.
Besides the Pool and Leisure Complex, there is a very popular foot passenger ferry to Salcombe town from South Sands beach in front of the hotel which takes just 10 to 12 minutes.
Perhaps the most exceptional popular activity outside the hotel is walking in the local area, particularly the South Devon Coastal footpath which actually passes in front of the hotel.
Sailing and a range of water sports are available via the Hotel in our association with South Sands Sailing.
In addition there are two 18 hole golf courses, tennis at North Sands on all-weather courts, horse riding, sea and fly fishing, scuba diving and hot air-ballooning.
Just a short walk away is the Overbecks Museum and Garden, one of the many superb National Trust Properties and sites in the area.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
We strongly believe that Tourism Businesses should make a responsible commitment to protecting the environment and the local community. This belief controls our operational decision making and our development plans to ensure we are an environmentally friendly and sustainable hotel business.
Within our management structure we have a system in place for monitoring our progress by reviewing current practices and researching and analyzing new ideas. We welcome assessment by Green Business UK Ltd and use their grading system to ratify the success of this Policy.
Some of our current practices are:
- Weekly reading of Electricity Meters, Water Meters and Oil & LPG Gauges to allow accurate monitoring of our energy and water consumption.
- Strongly sourcing only local produce (within Devon & Cornwall) from suppliers with good environmental credentials and identifiable sustainability, e.g. only buying fish from smaller Day Boats (out & back in 24 hours) using sustainable fishing methods (hand-lining, rod & line, nets with sufficient mesh size to allow juvenile/undersized fish to escape).
- Requesting Guests to place towels in baths only when they wish them to be cleaned.
- Composting of all our organic waste on site.
- Recycling by separation and storage for collection of all Glass, Plastic, Cardboard and Paper.
- Separating Fats, Oils and Grease from our waste water for safe disposal or reconstitution
- Low Energy lighting is employed wherever possible, Light Meter Switches and timers for external lighting
- Encouraging Wild Waterfowl to live on our garden pond
- Chemical Blanket on the swimming pool to save energy by reducing heat loss by evaporation
- Fridge Humidity Reducers to enhance the efficiency of the cooling system
- Offering Break Packages with complimentary tickets for the Ferry Boat into Salcombe hence encouraging leaving cars in the hotel car park
- free provision of several detailed walking maps of the surrounding coast and Countryside again to encourage less use of guest cars.
